WE celebrate PALM SUNDAY!

2021

Dear Friends,

Today, we celebrate with great joy the PALM SUNDAY!

This Christian festival is celebrated on the Sunday before Easter Sunday and marks the beginning of Holy Week!

We commemorate the entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, where he was hailed by multitudes as the Son of God. That's because, on that occasion, people received him with branches of olive and palm trees, which represent his victory.

On this day, olive branches are taken to mass, to be blessed. It is also common to find branches of palm trees placed in the shape of a cross in churches and on the streets. The holy branches remind us of our baptism, children of God, members of Christ, participants in the Church, defenders of the Catholic faith, especially in these difficult times. The sacred branches that we take to our homes, after Mass, remind us of our eternal union with Christ, in the same struggle for the salvation of the world, a path towards Calvary, but which will reach the Resurrection. Another tradition is the processions, portraying the Passion of Christ.

The liturgy of this last Sunday of Lent invites us to contemplate that God who, out of love, came down to meet us, shared our humanity, became a servant of men, let himself be killed so that selfishness and sin could be overcome. The cross (which the liturgy of this Sunday places on the horizon close to Jesus) presents us with the supreme lesson, the last step of this path of new life that, in Jesus, God proposes to us: the giving of life out of love.

Let us be worthy of God's blessing.

A huge HUUUUUG! Fátima C. Brízio
