WE travel to the east of the USA, pt. 4

2016

The United States of America are one of the most popular destinies in tourism, mainly for its diversity of options. After we showed you the west coast and the south, we now travel to the east coast.

This next week starts with a stopping the city of Hartford, capital of the north-american state of Connecticut, in the county of Hartford, by the Connecticut river. The city was founded in 1635 as Newtown and renowned as Hartford in 1637. It's the financial center of the state, being the biggest insurance center of the country and the second biggest in the world (just behind London). By the national census of 2010, the population is 124 775 inhabitants, making Hartford the third biggest city in the state, after Bridgeport and New Haven. In Hartford we can find several institutions and places that are amongst the oldest in the country, like the Wandsworth Atheneum art museum, the Bushnell public park, the Hartford Courant journal or the Hartford Public secondary school. Other cultural attractions include the Trinity College (a elite liberal arts private college) and the Mark Twain House (where the author wrote his most famous works and where he lived with his family). After the American Civil War, Hartford was the richest city in the country for several decades, but today the situation is the opposite.
