Dear Friends,

Today we celebrate Corpus Christi!

The Solemnity of Corpus Christi is one of the main ones of the Catholic liturgical calendar, and, for the Church, it celebrates the love of God in Jesus Christ who, before dying, wanted to stay with the faithful in the consecrated host.

The Christian community is called upon to, as a body, reaffirm its faith in the mystery that is celebrated in the sacrament of the Eucharist. The Eucharist is the memory and actualization of the paschal mystery, that is, of the death and resurrection of Jesus, who by communicating the love that God is, grants salvation to all humanity.

In the words of Benedict XVI, in the Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation Sacramentum caritatis, the Eucharistic mystery “is the gift that Jesus Christ makes of himself, revealing to us the infinite love of God for every human being”. It is the contemplation of this mystery that, on this particular day, intends to arouse adoration, praise and thanksgiving in the whole community for this gift of love, which is the source and center of all Christian life.
