Dear Friends,

However, today we alert you to TRAVEL OUTSIDE THE CONTINENTAL TERRITORY, information provided by APAVT - Portuguese Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies:

"Having doubts about the possibility of making trips outside the continental territory, it is important to clarify that, under the terms of Decree 3-A / 2021 of 14 January, there is a“ General duty of home collection ”under which citizens do not they can circulate in public spaces and roads, as well as in spaces and private roads equated to public roads, and must remain in their respective homes, except for trips authorized by the referred diploma.

The range of authorized trips includes “The trips required for entering and leaving mainland territory, including those required for traveling to and from the accommodation location;”

According to Order No. 666-B / 2021, of January 14, air traffic to and from mainland Portugal is authorized to: a) Flights to and from EU countries, countries associated with the Schengen Area (Liechtenstein, Norway, Iceland and Switzerland), and flights with connections with Portugal from Australia, China, South Korea, Japan, New Zealand, Rwanda, Singapore, Thailand, and the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau; b) Flights that are not to / from countries associated with the Schengen Area, exclusively for essential trips;

This means that, TODAY'S DATE and combining the two diplomas, it is the understanding of APAVT that: a) Travel to countries that are part of the EU, countries associated with the Schengen Area (Liechtenstein, Norway, Iceland and Switzerland), and flights with connections with Portugal from Australia, China, South Korea, Japan, New Zealand, Rwanda, Singapore, Thailand, and the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau are allowed (except for specific restrictions for each destination) without the need for a justification; b) Travel to destinations other than to / from countries associated with the Schengen Area, are only allowed as long as they are considered essential trips.

Under Order No. 666-B / 2021, of 14 January, essential trips, as referred to in Council Recommendation (EU) 2020/912, of 30 June 2020, are trips intended to allow transit or entering or leaving Portugal from: a) nationals of the European Union, nationals of States associated with the Schengen Area and members of their families, third-country nationals legally resident in a Member State of the European Union; b) third-country nationals traveling for professional, study, family reunion, health or humanitarian reasons. "
